SGA: New Official Seal

Official Seal for the Student Government Association of Connecticut College

In order to more accurately and effectively represent the Student Government Association to the student body and the college community at large, I designed this official seal for our documents and affairs. The Latin words around the edge of the seal come from the Honor Code of Connecticut College: “… and thus, in manifold service, we will render our Alma Mater greater, worthier and more beautiful.” The last three adjectives are translated to Latin to reflect SGA’s commitment to making Connecticut College a better place.
The seal also incorporates graphic elements from the seal of Connecticut College, in the form of the open book icons at the lower edge. The wordmark identifies our organization directly with the institution. The quill and gavel represent the twin functions of SGA, as a legislative and a governing body.

Connecticut College: The Greenhouse

The Greenhouse at Connecticut College

As part of the fundraising process for the new life sciences building at Connecticut College, I created this portrait of the college greenhouse, and the faculty, students and plants that make use of the facility. Originally, the goal of this video was to attract donor support for renovation of the greenhouse. I created an alternate version, shown here, for use in college publicity. I’m especially happy with the footage of the plant specimens visible in the video. The botany program at Connecticut College is truly special, and I hope I’ve done it justice.

Connecticut College: Uganda Internship Video

Summer Internship in Uganda

Brigid O’Gorman, a senior at Connecticut College, spent last summer in Uganda working at a medical clinic. She brought along a video camera, and I edited together her footage to make this video for College Relations. I pulled together this short narrative from around 70 minutes of footage. Really amazing stuff – I wish I’d been able to include more of what she shot.

SGA Public Relations

I was elected Vice President of Public Relations for the Student Government Association at Connecticut College this year,, which means I’m the one in charge of keeping the student body up to date on SGA business. I’ve organized and updated the SGA section of the College’s website, as well as creating a Facebook page and a Twitter account. On our Facebook page you can find weekly video updates from SGA president Nathan Cornell.

In addition to my work online, I write and publish SGA On the Can, a weekly newsletter with information on campus events, SGA business, and some fun Connecticut College trivia as well.

Coming into the new semester, I’m looking to do more online, including starting a Tumblr and redesigning the SGA website. I’m also planning to hold more events, increasing awareness about how SGA can help improve the student experience at Connecticut College.

BPA: New Big Picture Alliance Website

Screenshot of the new website for the Big Picture AllianceWebsite: The Big Picture Alliance

I’m putting the final touches on a brand new website for the Big Picture Alliance, the Philadelphia non-profit film education organization where I’ve been working this summer. I put together the site using WordPress as a content management system, adapting and modifying a free theme from WooThemes and connecting with the BPA’s existing Facebook and YouTube profiles. The site features static and interactive social networking links, an embedded YouTube gallery, an RSS-ready news feed, Google Maps connectivity and more.

My time at the BPA is coming to an end, but I hope this website will serve the organization for years to come.

BPA: Salvation Army Program

As an intern at the Big Picture Alliance, I worked a few days a week in June as an instructor in a filmmaking program for young urban children at the West Philadelphia Salvation Army Community Center. The children in the program, ages 8 to 12, write, direct, and act in short films, styled after public service announcements. As an instructor, I led the children through the filmmaking process, bringing their stories to the screen.

Connecticut College: Founders Day

Founders Day at Connecticut College

I covered the Founders Day event on behalf of College Relations, then edited the various parts of the celebration into this account of the College’s 99th birthday.

Connecticut College: Men’s Lacrosse vs. Tufts

Connecticut College Men’s Lacrosse vs. Tufts

I filmed the #8 Connecticut College Camels (12-0) when they faced off against the also-undefeated #6 Tufts University Jumbos, and quickly edited the footage to get this video up. A couple interviews, then the highlights start.

Connecticut College: Student Bands

Student Bands at Connecticut College

When I heard that my good friends Shake the Baron were recording their first full-length album at Connecticut College, I had the idea to make a video about them for the YouTube channel. That led to a larger exploration of the student music scene on campus, which is what we’ve got here. I’d say it’s my biggest video so far for the college, in terms of production.

Connecticut College: Unveiling the New Camel

Introducing the New Camel

At the Founder’s Day celebration on April 5th at Connecticut College, the redesigned Camel mascot was debuted to the college community. I recorded the festivities and edited a quick video showing the build-up to the unveiling and the decisive moment. This is the first in a series of videos highlighting the events of Founder’s Day, which celebrated the College’s 99th birthday.
