Post Millennium: Office Production Assistant

Post Millennium is a boutique high-end post production company located in downtown Manhattan, New York. Their clients include major television channels and advertising agencies. As of February 2012 I will be working full time in their offices in SoHo as an office production assistant. My primary responsibilities will be assisting the producers and editors in all aspects of the post production process, as well as maintaining a standard of excellence in client relations and office management.

I’m very excited to be working with such a talented team of professionals, and I look forward to seeing where this position leads me.

Goldcrest Films: Documentary Production Assistant

Pictured: Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger at Observation Post Restrepo

Through my internship at Goldcrest Post Production, I was hired as a production assistant for several shoots with Sebastian Junger, the famous author, journalist and director of the Oscar-nominated documentary Restrepo. The project I worked on is a documentary telling the story of Tim Hetherington, an award-winning war photographer who was killed in action in Libya.

In association with Goldcrest Films I also am currently working as a production assistant on two prospective projects: a reality TV series set in New York City, and a documentary about the inmate theater program at Sing Sing, a New York maximum security prison.

Goldcrest Post: Post Production Intern

Goldcrest Post is a film company with offices in New York, Los Angeles and London, specializing in post production, color correction and sound mixing for features, independent films and documentaries.

As an intern for the post production department of Goldcrest, I ensured a comfortable and productive office environment for the company’s employees, as well as for clients renting out office space in the building. My duties ranged from purchase and delivery runs to front-desk reception, managing petty cash and intern scheduling and assisting in client services.

Due to my consistent and dedicated work as an intern, I was asked to assist in several production projects in association with Goldcrest Films, including the Tripoli Street documentary about Tim Hetherington and a prospective reality TV show about Wall Street.

Connecticut College: The Greenhouse

The Greenhouse at Connecticut College

As part of the fundraising process for the new life sciences building at Connecticut College, I created this portrait of the college greenhouse, and the faculty, students and plants that make use of the facility. Originally, the goal of this video was to attract donor support for renovation of the greenhouse. I created an alternate version, shown here, for use in college publicity. I’m especially happy with the footage of the plant specimens visible in the video. The botany program at Connecticut College is truly special, and I hope I’ve done it justice.

Connecticut College: Uganda Internship Video

Summer Internship in Uganda

Brigid O’Gorman, a senior at Connecticut College, spent last summer in Uganda working at a medical clinic. She brought along a video camera, and I edited together her footage to make this video for College Relations. I pulled together this short narrative from around 70 minutes of footage. Really amazing stuff – I wish I’d been able to include more of what she shot.

BPA: Teen Filmmakers Summer Program

As part of my internship this summer with the Big Picture Alliance in Philadelphia, I taught high school students from underserved neighborhoods in a film production course, in conjunction with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Taller Puertorriqueño, and Nueva Esperanza Academy Charter High School. There were nineteen students in the program, and each worked on at least four short films. I helped the students in all aspects of production, from screenwriting to camerawork to editing. We also worked on public art projects in collaboration with the Pistoletto Foundation, as seen below. The program culminated in a screening at Nueva Esperanza, attended by local community leaders as well as the students and their families.

BPA: New Big Picture Alliance Website

I’m putting the final touches on a brand new website for the Big Picture Alliance, the Philadelphia non-profit film education organization where I’ve been working this summer. I put together the site using WordPress as a content management system, adapting and modifying a free theme from WooThemes and connecting with the BPA’s existing Facebook and YouTube profiles. The site features static and interactive social networking links, an embedded YouTube gallery, an RSS-ready news feed, Google Maps connectivity and more.

My time at the BPA is coming to an end, but I hope this website will serve the organization for years to come.

BPA: Salvation Army Program

As an intern at the Big Picture Alliance, I worked a few days a week in June as an instructor in a filmmaking program for young urban children at the West Philadelphia Salvation Army Community Center. The children in the program, ages 8 to 12, write, direct, and act in short films, styled after public service announcements. As an instructor, I led the children through the filmmaking process, bringing their stories to the screen.

Connecticut College: Men’s Lacrosse vs. Tufts

Connecticut College Men’s Lacrosse vs. Tufts

I filmed the #8 Connecticut College Camels (12-0) when they faced off against the also-undefeated #6 Tufts University Jumbos, and quickly edited the footage to get this video up. A couple interviews, then the highlights start.

Connecticut College: Student Bands

Student Bands at Connecticut College

When I heard that my good friends Shake the Baron were recording their first full-length album at Connecticut College, I had the idea to make a video about them for the YouTube channel. That led to a larger exploration of the student music scene on campus, which is what we’ve got here. I’d say it’s my biggest video so far for the college, in terms of production.
